Random Team Generator
Dividing a group into teams by hand always takes longer than it should, and somebody always ends up feeling the split was not fair. A random team generator settles it in one spin, and nobody can argue with the wheel.
How to split a group into teams
- Type or paste every name into the wheel, one per line.
- Turn on Sit winners out automatically so each person is drawn only once.
- Spin, and assign each name to a team in turn — first spin to Team A, second to Team B, and so on.
- Keep going until the list is empty. Every team ends up within one member of the same size.
Using more than one wheel
Contest Wheel runs up to four wheels at once, which makes team-building faster than spinning a single wheel over and over. Put names on the first wheel and team numbers on the second, and one spin gives you both at the same time. With three wheels you can add a task, a topic or a presentation order.
When a random split is the right call
In the classroom
Random grouping breaks up the same clusters of friends who always work together, and it takes the decision — and any accusation of favouritism — out of your hands.
At work
For workshops, breakout groups and hackathon teams, a random draw mixes departments that would otherwise stay in their own corners.
For games and sport
Picking sides is where arguments start. A wheel ends them before they begin.
Nothing you type is uploaded
Your list is saved in your own browser and nowhere else. No account, no server, no names leaving the device. For teachers entering a class register, that is the difference between a tool you can use and one you have to check with IT about first.
